Like most everybody, my heart breaks when I hear that somebody has taken their life. I may not understand the pain and confusion they are going through, but I know that suicide is not the answer.

Being a Christian believer, I know what the Bible says. It says “God is Spirit” (John 4:24); we are created “spirit, soul, and body” (1 Thessalonians 5:23); God’s Spirit gives birth to our spirit (John 3:6); your body is “the temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:19,20); whoever “destroys God’s temple will be destroyed” (1 Corinthians 3:17).

A simple impartial reading of these scriptures suggest that those who take their own life will be condemned in the next phase of life, which is eternity. At the end of the day, God will be the Judge. The Bible presents Him as loving and merciful, but also as Holy. He knows… we don’t.

In Ephesians 6:10-17 it describes the Armour of God, which is available to every believer. One of the pieces of armour is the “shield of faith that extinguishes the flaming arrows of the devil…” The Bible says there is a God… it also says there is a Devil. In John 8:44 Jesus says the Devil is the “father of lies”. Satan’s army of demons attack believers and unsuspecting unbelievers alike with fiery arrows of thoughts, lies, and accusations to cause confusion and depression. Many people think these thoughts are their own thoughts, and they “own them”… and eventually act on them. Satan’s army cannot directly harm you, but they can deceive you, and cause you to harm yourself.

The evil contingent will try to convince a person that they are worthless, that their family and the world will be better off without them… and the lie is that once you commit suicide, all the pain will be over. But the Bible teaches that we will all live forever… believers will have Eternal Life in the presence of God and His angels, but unbelievers will be eternally separated from God, and will spend eternity in torment in the place prepared for Satan and his followers (Matthew 25:31-48). Unfortunately, if you are not following after God, then you are of the world, and an enemy of God. (James 4:4) Satan is the temporary ruler of the world. (John 12:31)
