The Old Testament (the Old Covenant or Agreement or Contract) provided a way for God’s people to have their sins covered over through the practice of animal sacrifice.

In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.Hebrews 9:22

For sin, there is always a cost.

(Note that when Adam and Eve sinned and hid from God because they were naked, God slayed some animals [shedding of blood] and made clothes for them to wear.)

In the New Testament (New Covenant, or Agreement, or Contract), a better way was implemented. God provided Jesus, the Lamb of God, born in a stable, to be the final sacrifice. There is nothing we could do about our sin problem… But God dealt with it.

This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.1 John 4:10

All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us. He has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.Revelation 1:5b – 6

Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood… God did this to demonstrate His righteousness, for He himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.Romans 3:24-26

When you choose Jesus to be the Lord of your life and ask for forgiveness, your sins are forgiven because of His shed Blood, and you are clothed in His Righteousness, and you are found to be “in Christ”… His forever, Heaven bound.

But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago.Romans 3:21

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.Romans 3:22

Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.Romans 3:24

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.Romans 5:1

Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.Romans 5:2

And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.Romans 5:9

So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.Romans 5:11

For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.Romans 5:17

So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.Romans 5:21

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.Romans 8:1
