School of Thought 1: Grace in Giving

If you have to make a decision whether to pay your rent or pay your tithe, you should pay your rent. God will forgive you, your Landlord won’t. If you miss a payment on your rent, your testimony is damaged.

When you make enough changes to your budget you can now afford to pay 1% of your income to God. Praise God. Our Father is a God of Grace, and He will honour that. Have a goal to increase your giving to 10% over time, little by little. Eventually, you will have overflow, and you will be making offerings and alms as the Lord leads you.

This takes discipline. Have a Vision for that time.

School of Thought 2: Honour the Lord with Obediance

A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.Leviticus 27:30

Every tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the Lord.Leviticus 27:32

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.2 Corinthians 9:10

I heard a Preacher put it this way… “The Tithe is Holy to the Lord. Pay your Tithe, and God will Bless the rest.”

The concept is Pay your full Tithe (10%) no matter how much debt you have, and God will Bless the rest. A friend of mine has said you may always have debt, and that should not be an excuse not to pay your Tithe. Be obedient to the Lord and Trust in Him. He will lead you out of the darkness of debt.

Pray to God for direction between these two schools of thought. Whichever one you have Faith and Peace to follow, that is between you and the Lord. But be faithful and steadfast. You need to achieve your goals.
