The Gifts of the Spirit

The following is the Word of God as given to the Apostle Paul, who is sent to the Gentiles:

1 Corinthians 12:7-11

To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.  It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

Only together, each one exercising their Gifts for the whole, are we walking in the fullness of what God has for us.

Note that when the Scriptures speak of the Spirit, they are referring to the third person of the Trinity… the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is God’s Presence manifest on the earth today. The Spirit is our Comforter, our Guide, our Teacher… He makes His Presence known to us. We will sense Him in our spirit. There is an experience to be had.

Builders

1 Corinthians 3:9-17

Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.  For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.

Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.

To build, or not to build.
